Therapies I Use In My Counseling Practice

EMDR Therapy

If you have experienced difficult events in your life that you haven’t been able to move past, or that continue to impact you, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) might be appropriate for you . It can be effective in treating anxiety, depression, phobias, and PTSD among other challenges. EMDR therapy is not appropriate for everyone, and skills building and preparation are necessary steps prior to starting EMDR processing. It can be done easily during a virtual session utilizing a special platform that provides the BLS (bilateral stimulation) or audio or visual portion of EMDR. Check out my blog post on EMDR therapy for more information.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Also know as ACT, this therapy focuses on increasing psychological flexibility. In short, it's learning new ways of being with our thoughts, feelings and sensations, in the moment without letting them dictate our behavior.

There is a strong focus on values (the things in life we find most meaningful) in this work.

Ego States Therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on understanding and integrating the different parts of an individual's personality, known as states. Each ego state represents a distinct aspect of a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, often shaped by past experiences. The therapy aims to identify these states, communication among them, and promote healing by addressing unresolved conflicts. This process can lead to greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and personal growth.
